Who will Sign the Covenant? As there are a large number of Christians who believe there will be no rapture of the Church until after the seven-year covenant is signed; perhaps it is time for us to try glen a little more understanding about this covenant. It is written; “Then he (the man we call the antichrist) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (of seven-years); but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering (Daniel 9:27).” “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be 1,290 days (Daniel 12:11).”
So in the middle of the seven-year covenant, on the same day the daily sacrifice is taken away, the abomination of desolation shall be set up. But who are the many, who along with the antichrist confirm the seven-year covenant? The Bible refers to the many as ten horns who are ten kings (ten world leaders)
Daniel7:24 The ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom, and another shall rise after them; He will be different from the first ones, and he shall subdue three kings.
Revelation17:12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet’ but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.
Prior to the day this seven-year covenant is signed, these ten kings are not kings (nor are they presidents), they have no kingdom and they have no authority, but they shall receive authority for one hour as kings with the best. It sounds very possible that each of these ten kingdoms will hold elections on the same day. Each to elect their own president, who will receive authority for one hour with the beast.
Revelation17:13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast.
The sole purpose of these ten nations each electing a new president on the same day, is to hand over to them all power and authority to rule over their nation for the next seven-years. So in turn these ten new presidents will then, within one hour, hand all this power and authority over to the antichrist. Thus giving him power and authority to rule over the ten kingdoms for the next seven-years.
Revelation 17:14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
These (that is the ten kings and the antichrist) will make war with the Lamb (whom we know as Jesus Christ). The purpose of this covenant is not to make peace but to make war against the Lamb. Earthly kings and presidents who rule over earthly kingdoms do not war against spiritual beings; they war against flesh and blood. So when it says these ten kings and the antichrist will make war with the Lamb, we can then say the purpose of the seven-year covenant is to make war against God’s people.

A Covenant of Peace or a Covenant of War?
Many Christians, believe the antichrist will enter into a seven-year covenant of peace with many nations including the Jews. They also believe that in the middle of this peace covenant, the antichrist will break the peace covenant and his forces will invade Israel and then occupy Jerusalem and the Jewish temple for the next 3½ years.
However I am of the opinion that it is more likely that prior to the signing of the seven-year covenant there will be another major war between the Moslems and the Jews. As a result of this war the nation of Israel will greatly extend its borders and drive most Moslems out beyond Israel’s new borders. At the same time many Jews from around the world will flood into these newly conquered territories. Following this great victory the Jews will pull down the Moslem mosque and rebuild the Jewish temple. This will so greatly upset so many Moslems and their supporters, that ten kings (world leaders) from what was once the Roman Empire will come together to choose one man to rule over their kingdoms and armed forces for the next seven-years. Thus the seven-year covenant will not be a covenant of peace; it will be a covenant of war. Much the same as the covenant Germany and Russia signed before they both invaded Poland in 1939.
Many who support the theory that the antichrist will sign a peace treaty with Israel often quote from 1st Thessalonians 5:3:
I Thessalonians 5:3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labour pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
But so we can better understand what this verse is really saying, let us look at the contexts of this verse.
I Thessalonians4:13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
The main subject of this passage is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the coming resurrection of the dead in Christ. When a non-Christian dies, his family and friends sorrow because they have no hope, but when a Christian dies, we should not sorrow as the world sorrows, because we have a hope that we are sure of. Yes we may sorrow for our own lost, but we should not sorrow for our departed, for they have gone to be with the Lord in far better place. Not only that, we believe that just as Jesus died and rose again, even so when Christ appears, God will raise those who have died in Christ.
I Thessalonians4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will no means precede those who are asleep.16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
When our love ones die, it is a comfort to us to know that when Jesus Christ our Lord returns, that our love ones will first be raised from the dead, then together with them, we shall be caught up to meet with Jesus in the cloud in the air.
I Thessalonians5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you your selves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labour pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all the sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as other do, but let us watch and be sober.
Paul also writes concerning the times and the seasons:
II Thessalonians2:5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?
Jesus Christ taught His disciples about His Second Coming and the resurrection of the dead in Christ, and when His disciples asked, “Tell us when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your Coming and of the end of the age?” After telling them of things would happen but were not reliable signs, He said to them “When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing in the Holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand). [Matthew 24:3 & 15] So the first reliable sign that Jesus gives by which we will know He is coming soon, is when we see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing in the temple of God.
Jesus also told them “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” And, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” [Matthew 24:44 & 25:13]
Hebrews9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin for salvation.
Are you ready? Are you watching? Are you eagerly waiting for Jesus Christ to appear a second time? If you are ready, watching and eagerly waiting for Jesus Christ to appear. You like the five wise virgins will hear the cry of the watchman “Behold the bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him!” But if you are not ready, watching and eagerly waiting for Jesus Christ to appear. Like the five foolish virgins, you will not be ready and to you that day will come upon you as a thief in the night. (Matthew 25:1-13)
Jesus also said:
Matthew24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as in the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
When Noah started building the ark, he did not know the day or the hour that the rains would come. But Noah knew the flood would not come until first the ark was built and the animals were all safely aboard. Then seven days before the rains came, God told Noah that the rains would come in seven days. So Noah, his family and the animals all entered the ark seven days before the rains came and God shut the door. (Genesis 7:1-16) To Noah and his family this day did not surprise them, but to the people of the world, this day came upon them as a thief in the night. The people of the world had no fear of God and therefore no fear of the judgement of God that was about to come upon them. Therefore even as Noah and his family were entering the ark, the people of the world were saying ‘“Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction came upon them.’
I Thessalonians 5:3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labour pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all the sons of light and the sons of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
As Christians we have a true inner sense of peace and safety in the Lord, knowing that God works all things together for the good of those who are called according His purpose (Romans 8:8); while the people of the world (those who do not fear God), not knowing nor believing in the destruction that will come upon them, have a false sense of peace and safety.

The Revealing of the Man of Sin.
As Paul had taught the Thessalonians all about the coming day of the Lord and the resurrection of those in Christ, they should have known and understood these things. Therefore there should have been no need for Paul to write to them concerning the times and the seasons. But false prophets and false apostles had either written or come among them, telling them the day of the Lords coming and the resurrection had already been (II Timothy 2:17-18). Therefore there was a need that Paul write to them and again tell them concerning the times and the seasons.
II Thessalonians2:1 For Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together with Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
Paul is here telling the Christians in Thessalonica that the Day of our Lord Jesus Christ coming and our being gathered to Him will not happen until first there be the falling away, and secondly the man of sin is revealed. It is only after these two things have happened, that the Lord Jesus Christ will return and we shall be caught up to meet with Him in the cloud in the air.
First there will be a falling away:
What does the falling away mean? It is the Greek word ‘apostasia’ which is here translated as ‘falling away.’ While in Acts 21:21 it is translated as ‘to forsake’, where Paul is accused of teaching Jews who live among the Gentiles, to forsake the teachings of Moses. In the broad sense of the word ‘apostasia’, could speaking of either Jews or Christians forsaking true Biblical teachings. But given that Daniel writes that it is because of the rebellion of the Jews, that they are handed over to the antichrist to suffer the Great Tribulation. It is most likely referring to the Jews; who by their rebuilding of the temple and recommencing of the daily sacrifices, reconfirmed their rebellion against God and their rejection of Jesus Christ as their Messiah.
Secondly the man of sin will be revealed:
The man of sin will reveal himself by opposing and exalting himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God (II Thessalonians 2:4).
Daniel writes about the antichrist:
Daniel8:11 It (the antichrist) set itself up to be as great as the Prince of the host (as God), it (the antichrist) took away the daily sacrifice from Him (God), and the place of His sanctuary was brought low. 12 Because of the rebellion of the host of the saints (the Jews) and the daily sacrifice were given over to it (the antichrist). It (the antichrist) prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground. ( words in italics added.)
Daniel 11:36 “Then the king (the antichrist) shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.” ( words in italics added.)
God’s wrath (God’s indignation) will be against the Jews (during the great tribulation) in order that a remnant of His chosen people will come to repentance and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and so be saved.
Jesus Christ says of the indignation that the Jews have suffered ever since 70 A.D. and will continue to suffer until the end of the great tribulation:
Luke21:22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
Are we to expect a covenant of peace or a covenant of war? The people of Israel will know no peace until the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever (Revelation 11:15).
