I was asked the question, “Is it okay for Christians to do Yoga?” This booklet is written in reply to that question.
Please note; that just has many who call themselves Christians, have differing beliefs and views, so also there are many differing beliefs and views in Hinduism and other eastern faiths and religions. This in part, is because our forefathers in the beginning all worshiped the One and only true God, and there for understood the truths of God. However, has that nations rejected the ways of God, and went their own ways, they worshiped their own gods and developed their own faiths and beliefs; often blending truth and deception together. At times the nations have moved further from a belief in the One and only True God. At other times the nations have moved back closer to God.
No it is not okay for Christians to do Yoga. Although not all who practice Yoga will lose their salvation by practicing Yoga, it often puts Christians on a slippery slide away from God and truth. Also, I have meet strong Christians who have been practicing Yoga (or other Eastern types of exercises and/or martial arts) who have come under attack by demonic spirits which manifested themselves in various ways, seeking to control, oppress or possess them.
Some Christians when practicing Eastern types of exercises and/or martial arts, have had their voices taken over by demonic beings speaking satanic words.
The Universal Dictionary says this about Yoga.
1: “A Hindu discipline aimed at training the consciousness for the state of perfect spirit insight and union with the universal spirit.”
As Christians we believe the state of perfect spiritual insight is received by union with the God (the Holy Trinity), not union with the universal spirit.” God has said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (2 Corinthians 6:16).”
Who is this universal spirit with which one seeks to become one with, by practicing Yoga (and other Eastern types of exercises or martial arts)?
As Christians we worship the Holy Trinity; One God yet three persons in that One life giving being. Although we have not always called God the Holy Trinity, our beliefs in the Holy Trinity and the virgin birth of the Son of God, and the blood sacrifice of the Lamb of God all go right back to the Garden of Eden (Gen 1:1-2 & 26; Gen 2:21 & 3:15).
The knowledge of all these truths were carried by the ancients, then by Noah and his sons unto scattering of the nations from the tower of Babel. Thus all the nations of the world took with their forefathers from Babel a complete knowledge of the truth.
However, most nations quickly turned from the worship of the One and only Supreme God, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Instead many looked up into the sky and worshiped the sun as father god; they looked down and worshiped the earth as mother god; and they worshiped their earthly king as the son of god. This form of Pagan worship is as old as ancient Egypt and is still practiced in modern day Japan.
Latter (especially in the east) they further changed their belief away from that of The Triune God; and away from a belief in a personal loving and just God, to that of believing in an impersonal god who no more a force. A dualistic force which is believed to be a balance of all forces “good and evil”, “male and female”, “yang and yin”. This dualistic belief flows through all things, even to the food we eat “sweet and sour”. It is believed Yoga along with other eastern practices will restore the balance of this dualistic force within us, the universal spirit with which they are seeking union with.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what partnership has the justified with the lawless? And what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 And what agreement has Christ with Satan? Or what part has he that has faith with he that is faithless? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 17 Therefore “Come out from among them, and be you separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
The Universal Dictionary says this about yang (the male spiritual principality and power) and yin (the female spiritual principality and power).
Yin: In Chinese dualistic philosophy, the active, female cosmic element, force, or principle that is opposite but complementary to yang. (In Mandarin Chinese’s, yin, the moon, is the feminine element).
Yang: In Chinese dualistic philosophy, the active, male cosmic element, force, or principle that is opposite but complementary to yin. (In Mandarin Chinese’s, yang, the sun is the masculine element).
So in worshiping the sun as the masculine element of the universal spirit, we see a throwback to paganism, in which the nations worshiped the sun as father god.
This belief in an impersonal dualistic spiritual force is increasingly influencing people within the Church and turning them away from truth. A way from our belief in the Holy Trinity; God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Read our book on “The Holy Trinity”); and a way from the Bible’s teachings on the creation of, and of the nature of man (Either read our book “Death and Resurrection” or our booklet “Man is a soul who lives in a body and has a spirit.”)
God is not dualistic; neither did God did created man as a dualistic being.
I not only pray that what I have written will help you understand why a Christian should not practice yoga; but that it will be useful in the training and the teaching of those disciples of Jesus Christ whom God has placed under your oversight. For we are not to be ignorant of Satan’s schemes (2 cor 2:11)
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brothers and sisters, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God; that you may be able to stand against the wiles (the schemes) of the devil (the universal spirit). 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in the sky.
God bless you and all you watch over in the name of Jesus Christ.
Your brother in Christ,
Prophet Ken Clark.
