With the early Church, soon after one first received and believed in Jesus Christ, he had to choose whether to receive and believe the baptism into Christ, along with all the benefits that went along with their baptism by immersion in water.
Acts 2:36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the deliverance from sin; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is unto you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.”
You shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).
We are promised many things at our baptism, but for now we will only look at one of these promises and one little facet of this promise. The receiving of the Spirit of Truth, which is one facet of receiving the promised gift of the Holy Spirit.
John 14:15 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Intercessor, that he may dwell with you forever; 17 the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither does it know him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphaned: I will come to you.
John 16:12 I have still many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall speak it unto you. 15 All things that the Father has are mine, therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall speak it unto you.
Do you know the truth? Do you what to be guided into all truth? The journey which started with receiving and believing, continues with our baptism into Christ, the receiving of Holy Spirit / The Spirit of Truth, the anointing of the Holy Spirit with all power and authority as sons of God.
So we like Jesus Christ can boldly declare;
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and the recovery of sight to the blind, to send away ones having been oppressed with deliverance, 19 to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
